The Underwriter Had Questions. Again.
It was a somewhat prestigious and well established college. Loyal alumni. A substantial property schedule. And a producer who is absolutely certain this account deserves a closer look.
The underwriter agrees. Initially.
Then come the questions and explanations.
A student incident becomes an “improvised transportation arrangement.” A damaged automobile becomes a “student-built specialty vehicle.” And the producer feels compelled to clarify that the college does not operate an indoor equestrian program.
The underwriter remains professional:
“In the meantime, please explain ‘repurposed.’ The photograph appears to show armor.”
What follows is an email exchange about an increasingly difficult account to defend, between a producer determined to preserve the opportunity and an underwriter determined to understand exactly what happened.
If you have ever tried to put an account’s loss history in the best possible light, you may recognize the optimism. If you have ever underwritten one, you may recognize the questions.
Open the correspondence below. The producer has a few things to explain.
